Liz Broomhead - a memory from Hartington

Liz Broomhead moved to Hartington from Buxton when she was 7 years old, when her parents became landlords of The Devonshire Arms. One of her clear memories of early days at school was of Mr Neild, then the School Headteacher in Hartington, entering the name of a new girl in the register who was from a Gypsy caravan parked in the field behind the War Memorial (the field on your right as you walk towards the School from the village shops). Liz doesn't remember the name of the family, or how long the caravan stayed, but probably for around two weeks, and, for certain, this would have been in 1954, just possibly 1955.
